Skycity

2 semesters ago, I was required by my lecturer to come up with an urban development project. It’s actually on how you plan one city. So everyone is thinking how to build one city one large piece of land. My initial plan was Skycity. This Skycity concept was first introduced to me by watching Discovery Channel. Sort of like this idea of saving land and making full use of the “airland” (well, I mean land in the air).

So my group comes upwith this 11-story Skycity with our very own specifications on each level. Well, you may laugh at the how we plan the city but hey, everyone laugh at Wright’s brother when they plan to fly. But because of their insistence, we have what we call today an airplane. Frankly speaking, this project required huge sum of money but one day when land become lesser and lesser and there will be no more petroleum to operate cars and plane for traveling you might give this idea a thought. Give it a chance.

From the total area of 800 hectares, a total of 180 hectares is used for commercial purpose, 240 hectares for garden, and 200 hectares for dwelling purpose and 180 hectares for office use. This city was not meant for industrial field due to the fact that factories caused pollution in the building itself. Therefore, my group has suggested that industrial line to build outside the vicinity of Skycity. As shown, each level is originates from a hexagonal shape. Even tough it’s an eleven decks structure; there will be enough air ventilation and adequate exposure of lighting from sun.

In each level, there will comprise of three main components consisting ofhousing unit, commercial unit and institution organization. Besides, each level will serve a theme itself. The highest level will be a recreational park named “Garden Of Eden”. This park is based on Japanese garden concept and will be roofed by a retractable reinforced plastic to prevent lightning strike. There will be abundant of trees, hydroponics cultivation, and a man-made lake to create a sense of greenery for the residents to enjoy. At here, it will act as habitat for all kinds of birds’ species.

At level 10, there will one entertainment park named “City Of Maya” based on the idea of a cosmos indoor theme park. Planning to build here is a gigantic IMAX 3D cinema. Initial plan for this level is reserved for family outing for parents to spend some valuable time with their children.

As for level 7, 8, 9, four units of eachlevels will be for housing, and one unit each for institutional and commercial purpose. Here, it will be named “Hannie Home” where all the residents’ homes are based. Of course there will be three types of home packages made up of low, medium and high cost dwelling to be built for different sizes of family and economical significance.

Community today is health-conscious. Tightand busy working schedule encourage us to develop one floor especially for healthy workout. Called Health Center, this floor will incorporate with tennis, badminton and basketball court. Not to forget, a mini football field and a swimming pool of Olympic reputation. All the facilities will spread over the fifth and sixth floor. To have a world class sporting event held inside a building like this is beyond everyone’s imagination, I guess.

Meanwhile, level one to four will be dedicated commercial and educational grounds. For example level one and two will be utilized as a shopping complex of our similar to our very own KLCC status. The floor that will be known as the name “Boulevard Way” will operate as an art and cultural activity center. We’ll also witness the world best cuisine from around the world in this floor.

Next, the second and third floor will function as an educational purpose called “Info-cation” level. For example, level two will have higher learning institution of college and university that comes with top international research and development center. Whereas, level three will be occupied with kindergarten, primary and secondary school, tuition centres and boasts a digitalized information library.

The fourth floor will be part of the public administration department for instance the Public Transportation Department and Immigration Department. Banking facility will be available in this level together clinic and hospital. Buildings for religious activity will too be constructed at this floor.
