Brunei - Kingdom of Unexpected Treasure

Coming back to Brunei for the second time doesn’t provide the same thrill anymore. As the saying goes, “ Been there, seen that and done that”. The difference between the first and the second is that the first trip, I was a follower, but the second one I’m the one who run the show. I’m the one who deal with the client and the one who communicate with the airport tower. But you see more things as time goes by while my stay here.

There are a few things I observed in the difference of living culture between Brunei and Malaysia such as:

In Malaysia:

We call iced drink as Kopi ais, Teh ais, Limau ais, et cetera….

In Brunei:

They call it Kopi Ping, Teh Ping, Limau Ping whether you go to Malay restaurant too.

In Malaysia:

You stop waiting for car clearance before you cross the road. Or else you’ll get killed.

In Brunei:

Car stops waiting for you to cross the road.

In Malaysia:

You can wear 3 quarters/ short pants to shop at shopping complex

In Brunei:

People think you are a hairy monkey trying to show off your hair. Out of 10 only, 1 wear short pants.

In Malaysia:

You’ll receive a normal weekend holiday on Saturday & Sunday sticking together.

In Brunei:

Their weekend holiday is Friday & Sunday. They work on Saturday.

In Malaysia:

If you drive a VIOS, you are rich manager level.

In Brunei:

Lowest wage-earner & low ranked police officer drives a VIOS.
