I Am Legend

This New Year celebration , I decided to watch this movie “I Am Legend”. When I looked into this movie poster and the rating 'U' (suitable to be watched by all age groups in Malaysia), I thought this story must be some dog and owner relationship.

But once, I got myself in the cinema and read the synopsis at the counter with the word “vampire”, I said to myself “Uh-oh”. So this New Year I’ll end up freaked out with a scary movie. But that’s not the case. When I stepped out from the movie, I felt this movie is the greatest movie I watched this year. Some says it was boring but that’s what his life is all about. When you feel boring then the director manage to put you into Robert Neville’s (Will Smith) role. Imagine this, the people in the whole country are dead by virus infection and you are the only survivor. You get to drive all the fantastic cars, watch all the DVDs in the shop, get all the guns, military planes and play golf in the middle of the city all by yourself. Of course, it will be very boring. But to add excitement into the movie, the director decided to give some companions to Dr Robert Neville by putting him with some “zombies” (mutated human beings affected by the virus). I wouldn’t describe them as vampire because they are not ghosts. For those who are petrified with the description of the movie, I would reiterate the vampires are actually human being who turned aggressive because of the virus.

Aggressive and vampire is two different things

They are still humans. Well, I like the title of the movie and it live up to its name only until the end of the movie. I must give Will Smith a thumb up for his acting. This movie is so simple that I can describe the whole story in one whole paragraph:

The whole human race is dead because of one cancer virus. Only a few are immune to it. Dr Robert Neville is one of them. It has been 3 years already. At dawn, he’ll look for any survivors and research the cure. At dusk he’ll lock himself up because the aggressive zombies come out. He only got one companion, his dog Sam. He trapped one zombie for his research. Then the zombie’s father gets angry and then tries to trap him back. Then his dog was infected and died. He was so down and decided to commit suicide by confronting the zombies. He got saved by another survivor, Anna who received his radio message. By the time, Dr Robert Neville found the cure, he sacrificed himself so that he could pass the cure to Anna so that she could bring it back to her colony at hilltop area where the virus can’t survive the cold temperature. Wola.. He’s legend to human race.
