You won't get wrong entering any local eateries or restaurant in Hong Kong. What make a difference is only the price that might burn a hole in your pocket. For those who think RM400 per person for a dinner is appropriate, then you must come here. But for me, with that kind of price, I can eat breakfast for 200 days (half year) in Malaysia. OK, don't be kiamsiap. Let me rephrase. For that RM400 price range I can get the same quality of food at a cheaper price. Sounds better? Certainly, in life there are people who travel to enjoy good food and the comfort of the bed in the hotel. Some, like me would like to do things that I've never seen before in my life. I've eaten good and expensive food but never had I experienced a restaurant sitting on a floating platform before. Damneon Saduak was a different case.
Once on board, I was not sure what or who will be serving us. I took a casual stroll around the "kingdom" and went to the kitchen at the back to witness the area where they rear all the seafood. Judging from the view I had, I'm sure the seafood that I will be served is fresh from the sea aquarium. After one round, we are still looking for a cheap restaurant but to no avail. There are three levels inside the kingdom. Three levels mean three restaurants. Yup. Three restaurants only and I can guarantee you that all are expensive. I requested the menu from one of the restaurants and managed to glimpse at the list of reservation. It read:
Reservation
1. Mr. Ball
2. Mr. & Mrs. Spencer
3. David Burns
4. .....
As I mentioned early on, only the tourists from Europe are willing to eat here. Even one group of Japanese entourage went to the ferry pier to snap photo and the left without even stepping into the "kingdom" and escaped from getting their "throat slit". They were so scared I assumed that they don't even try the ferry to the "kingdom" which is free.
Nevertheless, Jumbo Kingdom is one of the exotic restaurant I've ever been. If only the food served are more friendly to the pocket like mine and Jeff, it will be packed with diners. This time we were smart. We went there in the evening and left when it turned dark. We managed to get two views. Of course, the night one is the best.
For those who plan to have a good view from the top , I would suggest you to go for the public car park located opposite the kingdom. Climb up to whichever level you feel your leg can carry you. Ironically, one who visits a restaurant will left with stuffed stomach. But for us, we left with empty stomach only to eventually fill it up with McDonald's! Talk about cheapskate.
